Trouble ahead., 5 months into it, and this drive will no longer burn DVDs. Doesnt matter if they are DVD+/- or RW,
they just wont burn. Most of the time now Windows wont even recognize that a blank disc has been
inserted, and causes a lockup of Explorer. Very frustrating.
On the upside, it does still play both DVDs and Blu-Rays flawlessly, and load times are pretty fast.
This came bundled with an Asus laptop, and Asus has had so many complaints about this drive they have
removed the Topic from their forums.
Windows keeps telling me to "update the firmware", but this disc is driverless, and firmware does not
exist.
Great laptop replacement, (What's this?) Just arrived in the mail. I replaced the DVD drive in my Asus G74SX. It seems to work prefectly, just had to swap out the mounting bracket and the faceplate. Be careful with the faceplate. Use a small flat screwdriver and press softly. Don't strain it or the tabs seem like they'll break off rather easily.
I haven't put this through its paces yet, but it reads as a BD-ROM drive in Windows Explorer. Also, I understand, and you should too, that you need to have Blu Ray software to read a Blu Ray movie. Window 7 does NOT come with playback software.

Replacement for Toshiba CD/DVD UpGrades to BLU Ray, (What's this?) My daughter's computer cd/dvd drive broke and warrenty was over within 13 months. BestBuy wanted to charge alot of money to repair/fix/upgrade it. I would of been better buying another laptop. It would of cost over $300 plus. I found a computer person to replace it cheaper and it was upgraded to Blu Ray too! It worked and fit beautifully. I was so happy and it came in and was fix within a week. Dont you hate when your teen uses your computer.
Great Buy For Lenovo Thinkpad i5, After searching for months for a good Blu-ray disk drive for my Thinkpad i5 0578-A99 laptop, I finally broke down and bought this. I installed it with NO problems, and my computer automatically uploaded the drivers. I installed CyberLink Power DVD 11 Ultra on my computer and watched a movie then started typing this review. Buy this product. Fast shipping too.
Great little bluray unit, (What's this?) I built a small htpc system and I used one of this. It works great and its quiet during bluray playback.
Boy can this thing spin disks!, (What's this?) Get powerdvd 11 if u don't have it already and watch away... Works like a dream...
Does not read BD, (What's this?) A Blu-Ray drive that doesn't read Blu-Ray disks! Apparently this is an OEM drive and it doesn't have any firmware updates available. Stay away for Blu-Ray movies.
Actually CT30N now, I guess the CT30N is the newest drive that replaces the CT21N. The drive is a flawless replacement for the OEM drive in my Acer Aspire 7535 with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium. The drivers installed automatically and without issue. Swapping the face plates takes longer than installing the drive, drivers, and player software combined. Blu ray playback requires additional software so I downloaded a free trial of PowerDVD 10 Mark II.
